United Adds San Francisco–Manila Route, Filling a Nonstop Gap

· Trovlr

United announced today it will launch nonstop service between San Francisco (SFO) and Manila (MNL) on March 8, 2027, operating a Boeing 787-9 four times weekly. It becomes the only U.S. carrier flying the route nonstop, ending the connection-through-Honolulu or Tokyo era for most travelers. Introductory fares start at $749 round-trip in economy.

The route fills a real gap. Philippine Airlines flies SFO–MNL nonstop, but U.S. carriers have skipped it for years, citing yield concerns. United is betting on the roughly 1.5 million Filipino Americans in California and a steady flow of business traffic to Manila's BPO sector. Flight time eastbound will run about 13 hours; westbound, around 14.

For travelers, the practical win is schedule flexibility and a second nonstop option, which should push fares down on the route within a year. United MileagePlus members can expect standard award pricing in the 40,000–55,000-mile range for economy. If you've been routing through Tokyo to reach Manila, this cuts a full connection and roughly six hours off the trip.
