Know before you go
money
Poland uses the złoty, not the euro. When a card terminal offers to charge you in your home currency, always decline — dynamic currency conversion rates are terrible.
transport
PKP Intercity trains link the major cities cheaply and well — book the EIP Pendolino a couple of weeks ahead and pay roughly half the walk-up fare.
tipping
Careful: saying 'dziękuję' as you hand over payment means 'keep the change.' Tip about 10%, ideally in cash on the table.
etiquette
Greet with 'dzień dobry' when entering small shops, and if invited to a home, bring flowers in an odd number — even counts are for funerals.
